Successful recovery of personal and professional photos and documents following an attack on my QNAP NAS by the Deadbolt ransomware Discovering that the 1 TB drive on my QNAP NAS (including the mirrored drive) had been encrypted by the Deadbolt ransomware was an unexpected and unpleasant surprise. Thousands of files, stored for years, became inaccessible overnight, and QNAP (the main cause of the problem, due to an app in the base software) offered no help other than a trite reply: ‘You should have kept the firmware up to date’… which I did do, but obviously not every day 😡! I had almost resigned myself to permanently formatting the hard drive containing personal documents and photos spanning my family’s entire life; I’d been keeping it safe (since 2021!) whilst waiting to find a solution to the Deadbolt ransomware infection and, after many attempts, even with some very well-known companies… but without success, I found Recoveo online (and, above all, the kindness and professionalism of Marie Berry) Case summary (Fiche synthétique) Profile: Private client (Italy) Device: 1 TB hard disk (mounted on a QNAP NAS) Incident: Deadbolt ransomware infection (data encrypted). Fortunately, the SOS Ransomware team took charge of my case quickly. They explained the various steps to me clearly.
